LITERARY FEATURE (JUNE ISSUE) : PAX HERETICA

LITERARY FEATURE

 (JUNE ISSUE)

Pax Heretica
Raphael Villanueva

You are living a lie.

I have observed you. I see you. I record your actions. You are sent here, among many others, to die a misinformed, despicable death for no more reason than children playing at stones.

Lies. Fabricated, engineered, and embellished to protect a government, or a fragile peace--if such bloodshed can be called peace, for truly if the truth is revealed, all will be shattered--a mistaken utopia that your rulers have spoon-fed you. A utopia of utter ignorance even until the moment you close your eyes for the last time, alone and decimated on an alien world. A world where the ability to see through patterns shimmering beyond the silken smoothness of deception is brutally smashed, where reality is often denied to those most willing to obtain it.

You are fighting a war, but it is not a war that you have hope of winning. You and your enemies alike are mere pawns in a greater struggle, even beyond the mortal concept of good and evil. A struggle that has defined this universe for much more times than you can imagine, a fate that is hidden--for unsealing it will destroy the entire constant of reality; a destiny that is kept secret for eons beyond count.

So you fight, and kill, and maim, and destroy and die. So you engage in petty squabbles as the grains of the sands of time trickle to its last. So you continue your arrogant ways and your misguided beliefs that you are supreme, that you are God. But no more. Now, you will finally see.

When the curtains are raised, and the caulk on your eyes lifted, you will see.

You will see... that there is much to this world that you have not dreamed of existing. That such heresy has been kept under the sublime professions of loyalty and service, doctrine and creed. And that who you are, and what you are, is the last pawn, the finality of a fate so long ago decided. It is a fate that, however it had been decided, YOU MUST STILL UNDERTAKE.

A fate that will shatter your faith.

Are you prepared?

You will see.

Have faith--or your fate shall destroy you.

LITERARY: JEJEMON, taas noo! Martin Bonitillo

  Dagdag dito, bawas doon!

OMG

When I saw him
My heart beats so fast
And I don’t know what to do
Is it normal fear or phobia of you?
Every time you look at me
I’m melting like a candle wax
My hand is shaking
OMG!

My heart  is confused!
Oh! Maybe it’s a sign of a heart disease
I think, I need to have a
check up
To my favorite doctor
But wait,
Is it t a heart disease or Love?
OMG!

                                  You are good
  Ahva_1624

You are good, and You will always be.
Your enduring and abounding love
Are always there for me.
You’ve accepted and love me as me,
You lived, carried the cross and died for my sin,
You’ve saved me from eternal flame.
You always hear me when I call,
And pick me up each time I fall.
You are my strength when I am weak,
You are my confidence,
and I have Your presence as my defense.
You alone deserve all glory,
You alone deserve all praises.
I will worship and adore You
Until my last breath.
For You are my Father,
My savior, my God.
You are good;
And your mercy endures
Forever

FEATURE: JEJEMANIA

30W p0WHzZzZzZ...... 4n0 p0WhzZzZ G4w4 NiY00!?!?!????!!?!?........... üüüüü ( Hello, what are you doing? )

There is no doubt that jejemons are now widespread in our country, some says its okay it’s a self expression while some says it can be harmful and alarming.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF JEJEMON PEOPLE?

Sign that it is a jeje you are dealing with is that he (they are most commonly masculine) seems to have low intelligence.
This is because:
1. they can not express themselves in the English language as good as an average person
2. it seems that their kind is simply dumber.
3. Their names are also often begun with "El"
then followed with a random Spanish or Portuguese word.
4. They put too much letters and symbols in every word they say even in their god damn NAMES or ALYASES.

    -liezel
With so much controversies and issues regarding jejemons and jejebusters I made a survey to my fellow student here in College of  Science asking them whether jejemons can be considered bad influence or not.  Here are their opinions.

“Para sa’ken hindi naman kung base sa paraan ng pag-tetext nila na kagaya ng sinasabi ng iba na nakaka apekto sa spelling, siguro malaking hamon yun para sa DepEd na palawakin pa ang  kaalaman ng mga teacher sa pagtuturo.”
             -Rovie Rose Nofuente, I-E

“Para sa’ken, hindi kasi nasa kanila naman yun kung papaimpluwensya sila eh.”
            -Kleithem,II-C1

“I do consider them, just a bit as bad influence in a sense that mas lalo pa nahihirpan ang mga studyante when it comes to spelling, but I respect nman pagiging jejemons nila.”
                        -Joy M.,IV-A

“Opo, bad influence sila, ang hirap intindihin ng mga text nila, pa’nu na lang yung iba na hindi nakakaintindi sa pauso nila.”
                         -Quincie, II-E1

“Opo, dahil una sa lahat pin ahihina nito ang mga mag aaral sa spelling, at mahirap pa intindihin ang mga text nila.”
               -Venus, II-C1

“I think yes, ‘coz for you to improve your memory about the CORRRECT spelling of a particular word, you must train yourself on how to spell a word in a proper way right?”
                    - Smylone Villano, III-A

“hmm.. Kung sa murang edad ng mag aaral, bad influence talaga ang mga jejemons, pero kung sa mga teenagers hindi na, kasi nasa kanila na yun, at may sapat na kaalaman na sila kung mag papaimpluwensya ba sila.”
                      -Jenifer, I-C1

“I guess not, in away kasi nagkakaroon ng sariling desisyon ang youth whether they will choose to be jejemons or not”
                                                        - Dez, III-E3

Yes all of us have our own opinion and we are all entitled to it. If jejemons think it is cool to be that way, let them. If jejebusters think that jejemons are irritating, be it. Anyway, that’s life you  can’t please everyone. What’s important is we’re not doing bad to our fellowmen, and that we are happy with what we are.

I am very pleased to those who responded to my survey question. It’s good to know that many of us youth today engage their selves with the current issues of the community.   Hope that there would be more students to respond the next time  I post a  survey question.

Facing the challenge

Facing the challenge

Nakakapag aral ka pa ba?
Ano bang napapala mo d’yan?

Those are the frequently questions asked to me by some  of my friends, classmates and even family. Some of them don’t really understand  me. But why am I still aiming for more responsibility?

In my two years stay here in URS I found myself so much engaged  with different organizations, trying to fulfill the responsibilities of an effective leader.

I thought, the value of leadership comes naturally to a person as soon as he/she is designated to a position. Same as I use think that anyone likes writing the way I do and has passion doing it. But I was wrong.

It isn't really so sad to think about it, I am aware that all of us have our own unique capabilities that only us can perform. I simply can’t stand the disagreeable situations around me wherein I know that I am capable of dong something to improve it.

I never wished to be the Editor I Chief, when I enter this university, I only wanted to be a writer of its publication. But then, the calling for service didn't stop from merely being a writer.

Reading an article from a friend who happens to be the Chief Editor of this publication before, gave me the idea of writing this as an initial response to the seemingly challenge to the COS students.

Definitely, College of Science is a seat of intellectual and talented students waiting to be discovered. All we need is to give them the opportunity to unravel those talents.

I am firm with my belief that if we really want to do something, there is always a way. With proper time management, with the support and cooperation of my fellow students and of course with the guidance of our Lord, COS can surely prove its worth.

Opinion (JUNE ISSUE): Paying COS the Right COST

 Paying COS the Right COST

The first time I step my bared foot in the University of Rizal System, it is not on my personal choice to be with this institution knowing the mere fact that I supposed to study my Bachelors degree in Mass Communication major in Journalism in one of the most prestigious university here in our country, but that dream never came true.

Never in my mind until I was challenge by faith to took the course BS Political Science in URS-Angono and latter transfer to URS-Morong Campus knowing that the soon to be abolished course was to be relocate in the College of Science where I took first Bachelor of Science major in Psychology then later shift again into BS Guidance and Counseling.

Yes, it was just like a roller coaster ride stating the history of where I am now. From a simple dreamer to a simple believer, this is what the College of Science had taught me 3 years ago. (not that old exactly).

When a colleague fed me a news about writing a bulletin article in a publication where I came from, I don’t hesitate to volunteer and text the present editor-in-chief that, “I am willing to contribute a column article.”

And then she replied, “Sure, why not? For a former editor-in-chief?” that reply really made me laugh a bit while I am browsing the laptop and looking at the sketch of an editorial cartoon also passed by a closed friend who wishes to quit in University Student Government and gave his focal attention in the development of our beloved college: the COLLEGE OF SCIENCE.

And here comes the new GOAL: a join force for a better COS!

I will never be ashamed of that I came from the most dynamic college in my times about three years ago. It is in our penultimate year, that THE ESSENCE Publication brings so much pride and honor not only for the college but for the whole university.

Winning in the regional and Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference makes the year 2007 for THE ESSENCE Publication upon being conferred as national winner for Best in Development Communication Page highlighting the college projects in extension services and community participation.

That recognition doesn’t end in an awarded pillar of achievement, as the college faculty and staff continue to mold COS students who are caliber and well-trained in terms of leadership, publication and any student participation.

As a former student leader in the college, I am glad to say that the passion of the College of Science Mission and Vision continuously grows even I graduated and after I comeback less than a year ago that I bid farewell.

Truly, I really miss working with my co-student leaders leading the COS Student Body, BGP, Arts and Letters, SMS, BIOSA, COM.ORG., COSAA, Math Circle and hopefully I didn’t forgot any student organization I had worked with during my college days, because above all of these, it’s THE ESSENCE publication that really enhanced not only my writing abilities but also my leadership potentials as a student leader.

Now that I am no longer a student, I asked myself how I could possibly move forward in helping my former organizations to lead effectively.

The College of Science has a lot of potential leaders waiting to be discovered. There are a lot of students waiting to be trained and given a time to shine. Now, for a pool of student leaders waiting to be unleashed at their best it is now the time for every COS students to join hand in making a difference for the college status quos.If we are really craving for change, I am heading all the student leaders in the college not as the former editor-in-chief of this publication again shouting for change using my mighty pen and paper. As a proud alumnus of this college, I am encouraging every student in this college to take their part as a student in bringing out what is the best and what is right for our beloved academe.

Let us pay COS the right COST!

JUNE 2010 ISSUE

Strange yet familiar

Please maintain the cleanliness of your classroom…  Avoid throwing garbage anywhere…
keep your thrash till you find the right place to dump it out.... And so on.

We are all used and bombarded with those lines yet most of us still find it strange to follow it. When we are ask about cleanliness we all know how to answer it, true to our deeds memorization is the lowest form of learning.
Every now and then the campus takes turn in attributing its policies regarding cleanliness in order to engage students in proper waste disposal. Sadly, most of us don't really apply what we have memorized.
Simple things add up, if all of us will just learn even just to avoid throwing thrash anywhere then no one will dare to say pick the thrash that the others  had thrown.
Looking up to these possibilities, we have to partake on the beatification of our campus. We at THE ESSENCE assert for the best that we can make for our academe.
Ask yourself, do I care about my appearance? If your answer is yes, you better start proving it, remember, the virtue of a person lies on how he/she is thorough in the place that she stayed at.
